Are Implant-Supported Dentures Right for Me?

About 20% of all Canadians are missing all or some of their teeth. As such, this is a very common condition, and we're here to help. When you visit our practice for the first time, we'll conduct an extensive oral exam that looks at the condition of your teeth, gums, and jawbones. From there, our skilled denturist will advise you on the most suitable denture over implant solution while alleviating any concerns or questions you may have about our treatments. Our Ottawa implant-supported dentures may be perfect for you if you:

  • Are interested in a restoration option that looks like your natural teeth
  • Want a durable, highly functional tooth replacement that lasts for years with proper care
  • Need a restoration that helps prevent jawbone loss

Our Implant-Supported Denture Process

Before you can receive your implant-supported dentures, your smile must be prepared for them. At Sean Denture and Implant Center, we'll closely coordinate with a dental specialist for tooth extractions and implant placement as necessary. While your smile heals and you get closer to receiving your dentures, we'll provide transitional dentures that help you bite, chew, and speak. Once your smile has completely healed and your dental implants are in place, we'll have you visit our office for your new dentures and adjust them to fit securely and comfortably.

Our implant-supported denture options include:

All-on-4® Dentures: All-on-4 is a dental implant technique where an entire arch of teeth is replaced using four dental implants. Using state-of-the-art technology, All-on-4 uses dental implants placed at an angle, which maximizes the implant's contact with the jawbone to reduce the chance of movement. Should you qualify for the All-on-4 process, our denturist will be able to provide implant-supported dentures with minimal time in the exam chair and quick recovery times.

Hybrid Dentures: A hybrid denture is a form of implant-supported restoration fixed in place. Hybrid dentures are a versatile treatment option that provides stability and functionality. They can also provide a high degree of comfort, an improved ability to taste food, and a natural feel because they don't cover your upper palate. Hybrid dentures consist of durable prosthetic teeth on a pink acrylic base and are popular for their natural appearance. In addition, they're easy to care for and can last years of use if properly cared for.

Snap-On Dentures: If you're interested in an implant-supported denture option that's sturdy and functional but removable like a traditional denture, snap-on dentures may be right for you. Depending on your situation, snap-on dentures may require as few as two implant posts to hold them in place. They easily snap into place using strong magnets or fitted metal plates that keep them secure. Because they're removable, maintaining proper hygiene is easy, and if they get damaged, our dentist can easily repair or replace them.

Denture Over Implant FAQs

We know how frustrating it can be to visit the denturist and feel you don't have all the information you need to feel comfortable and confident about your appointment. At Sean Denture and Implant Center, we're committed to educating you about our implant-supported denture options and answering any questions you may have. Some frequently asked questions about implant-supported dentures include:

Are implant-supported dentures removable?

That depends on the type of denture that you receive. For example, All-on-4 cannot be removed, whereas snap-on dentures can be. We'll work with you to determine a denture option that perfectly fits your comfort level.

You can care for non-removable dentures as you would your natural teeth. We recommend brushing them at least twice a day and regularly flossing them to prevent damage to your prosthesis. However, if you have a removable implant-supported denture, our practice recommends specific steps for proper care. These include, rinsing them in room temperature water after each meal and using a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove food particles before replacing them.

With proper care and frequent dental checkups, you can expect your implant-supported dentures to last many years of repeated use. Our dentist will be able to talk to you about the longevity of our different options as we help you decide on the right option for your new smile.
